Nial Robinson

Dr Niall RobinsonDeputy Head of Informatics Lab

Niall is Deputy Head of the Met Office Informatics Lab and one of its resident scientists. He's focused on building upon Devon's world leading expertise in environmental and big data to grow a vibrant commit of local businesses.

Niall has always been passionate about communicating science in a way that makes people want to listen, and feels that the Lab brings everyone closer to what science is really about: understanding what's going on.

Niall's career has taken him all over. His PhD was spent negotiating leeches and elephants whilst living deep in the Borneo rainforest for three months. This was all to find out more about how clouds are made, and how that might change if we cut the rain forest down. He's also  worked (feeling rather travel sick) racing 50 feet above the ocean in the UK’s FAAM research aircraft. Since then Niall has worked at the Met Office researching the cutting edge field of Seasonal to Decadal climate modelling, before joining the Informatics Lab in 2015.
